JUNE KEY POINTS


FINAL DEMAND (EXCL. EXPORTS)
  • rose 0.1% in the June quarter 2016.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+13.6%), meat and meat product manufacturing (+3.7%) and building construction (+0.4%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for computer and electronic equipment manufacturing (-3.3%), specialised machinery and equipment manufacturing (-3.8%) and fruit and vegetable processing (-5.4%).
  • rose 1.0% through the year to the June quarter 2016.


INTERMEDIATE DEMAND
  • rose 0.2% in the June quarter 2016.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+13.7%), electricity, gas and water supply and sewerage and drainage services (+2.0%) and oil and gas extraction (+10.5%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for textile, leather, clothing and footwear manufacturing (-2.6%), grain mill and cereal product manufacturing (-9.4%) and sheep, beef cattle and grain farming (-2.5%).
  • rose 0.3% through the year to the June quarter 2016.


PRELIMINARY DEMAND
  • rose 0.1% in the June quarter 2016.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+14.1%), electricity, gas and water supply and sewerage and drainage services (+2.1%) and oil and gas extraction (+9.8%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for textile, leather, clothing and footwear manufacturing (-2.5%), motor vehicle and motor vehicle part manufacturing (-3.2%) and computer and electronic equipment manufacturing (-3.1%).
  • rose 0.1% through the year to the June quarter 2016.

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

From the June quarter 2016, four additional series have been included in the Time Series Spreadsheets. These indexes are published from the September quarter 2001, and are incorporated into the stage of production indexes from June quarter 2016.

Table 21. Output of the Transport, postal and warehousing industries, group and class index numbers includes:
  • 4622 Urban bus transport (including tramway)
  • 4623 Taxi and other road transport
  • 5102 Courier pick-up and delivery services

Table 27. Output of the Other services industries, group and class index numbers includes:
  • 9511 Hairdressing and beauty services

Index numbers for the Output of the construction industries and Input to the house construction industry have been calculated using an updated weighting pattern from the June quarter 2016. As a consequence of the re-weighting, the points contributions for the June quarter 2016 will not be comparable with points contributions from earlier periods.


REVISIONS IN THIS ISSUE

There are revisions to the March quarter 2016 indexes as a result of updated information from survey respondents. The affected series are annotated in the Time Series Spreadsheets and Data Cubes.


CHANGES IN FUTURE ISSUES

From the September quarter 2016, two additional series will be included in the Time Series Spreadsheets. The indexes will also be incorporated into the stage of production indexes from September quarter 2016.

Table 17. Output of the Construction industries, subdivision and class index numbers will include:
  • 3109 Other heavy and civil engineering construction

Table 27. Output of the Other services industries, group and class index numbers will include:
  • 9520 Funeral, crematorium and cemetery services
